        Dr. Joe McCord

        Founder

        Joe M. McCord received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Duke University in 1970 where he and his mentor, Professor Irwin Fridovich discovered a new family of antioxidant enzymes which they named Superoxide Dismutases. For their work they were awarded the Elliott Cresson Medal by the Franklin Institute in 1997 (other recipients have included Pierre and Marie Curie, Orville Wright, Alexander Graham Bell and Henry Ford). Dr. McCord was a founder and first elected President of the Oxygen Society, now called the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine (SFRBM). He has published 200 scientific studies, reviews, and presentations that have now been cited nearly 38,000 times by other scientists. For nearly two decades he has focused on the mechanisms of activation of the Nrf2 transcription factor and the two thousand human genes it regulates. In 2014 he founded Pathways Bioscience, a company of scientists dedicated to creating safe and effective supplements to maintain proper oxidative balance versus the forces of human aging, with a commitment to using the latest proven advancements in science to do so.
